Hey, AXN is going to be back again. From its coerced hibernation.
The two-month-long ban imposed on it following the telecast of the ‘World’s Sexiest Advertisements’ has been lifted 15 days. Yeah, a good 15 days before-hand.
AXN Country Head Sundar Aaron told exchange4media, “We are happy that the ban has been lifted and our channel will be again watched by million of viewers.”
We are very happy too.
The ban was imposed in January after AXN refused to pay heed to the warnings of the Informationa & Broadcasting Ministry. The programme content of ‘World’s Sexiest Advertisements’ was against good taste or decency and was likely to adversely affect public morality. Or so the ministry had us believe.
The ministry had told the channel: "the Central Government thinks it necessary to prohibit transmission or re-transmission of the said channel in the country. As such the Central Government in exercise of the power conferred by sub-section (2) of Section 20 of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, has taken decision to prohibit the transmission/re-transmission of this channel on all platforms.”
AXN had little choice but to apologise with: “We acknowledge that the I&B Ministry’s ban on the distribution of AXN in India from January 17 is based on programmes and advertisements that had been previously exhibited on the channel. We understand that the ban is based on legal procedures contained in India’s Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995.”
Great. From now on the big bosses of all channels are gonna be good boys.
And no one would be corrupting our gullible, infantile minds.
