The Indian Ministry of Tourism has announced a travel bonanza for att medal winners at the recent Commonwealth Games 2010. Though the ministry had announced its plans during the Games itself, the announcement came only on Thursday.
The best of the packages is being offered by the Ministry in association with the state governments of Rajasthan and Karnataka, and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). This would be in the form of complimentary travel packages for the medal winners and the coach or one companion to travel on the three luxury trains ― Royal Rajasthan on Wheels, Maharaja Express and Golden Chariot.
The package covers travel, accommodation, food and sightseeing are for a period of seven nights. Subject to the availability of accomodation and the choice of train, the medal winners can can avail of these trips anytime till March 31, 2012. The incentives range from Rs 120,000 to Rs 320,000 per person, according to the category of medals won. Indian sportspersons won 38 gold, 27 silver and 36 bronze at the CWG 2010.
The Hotel Association of India and the Ministry would also offer two nights three days hotel packages at 27 locations across the country at 48 member hotels for gold medal winners.
The Indian Association of Tour Operators and the Ministry is offering medal winners a chance to do the Golden Triangle tour of Delhi-Agra-Jaipur-Delhi. The package, which would be for three nights and four days, will include hotel accommodation with breakfast, transport and site-seeing.
