Gurbachan Singh, the acting head of the Akal Takht, has taken strong exception to the depiction of Hindu gods by the two celebrities, who incidentally, are both Sikhs.

“Though I have not received a complaint in this regard, I think it is unreasonable to mock at religious deities like this. Ravana is known as evil. How can Ravana and Sita dance together? That the dance was done by two Sikhs is condemnable,” the Akal Takht chief said.

He added that if any complaint in this regard was made to him, he would inquire into it and initiate religious action against the erring stars.

Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar said that celebrities should desist from such acts as they are role models for millions of fans.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Kanchan Mahi fixed the hearing on Monday after Punjab VHP spokesman Vijay Singh Bhardwaj and others alleged in their complaint that Harbhajan, his co-participant TV actress Mona Singh and the channel that aired the programme had ‘intentionally and deliberately’ hurt the religious feelings of Hindus.

Arvind Thakur, who is also chairman of Akhil Bhartiya Rajput Council, and the Punjab Unit of Bajrang Dal are also party to the complaint.

Thakur, incidentally, is also president of an NGO called Global Human Rights Counsel. What rights does he defend, may one ask?

Shiv Sena activists were as irate as only they can be, according to CNN-IBN: [Link]

About 40 workers of Shiv Sena (Hindustan) under the leadership of Narinder Thapar, District President of the party gathered in front of Harbhajan's house and started raising slogans against him and also burnt his posters.

The protestors demanded that Bhajji should submit unconditional apology to the Hindu community as he has hurt the religious sentiments of hindus by dancing as a Ravana.
